Sara's Top Ten Places to Visit in Videogames (11/29/09)

So for Part IV of my wish list series, I give you my top ten videogame locations that I want to vacation at.  Again, this is my list of places, so it will most likely be different than yours.  That being said though, franchise rule is in effect.

#10  Albion (Fable Series) - I know it's highly based on Britain, even pulling it's name from the older name of island, but even still, Albion's much different than it's predecessor geographically speaking.  I prefer the first game's map  to the second's, as it seems more fluid to me.  I'd want to go to Bowerstone, and hang out in Oakvale's tavern.  And, I'd really like to explore the Guild in all it's glory.

#9 Yokosuka, Japan (Shenmue) - Ok, so this is solely based on somewhere in real life I want to go.  However, that aside, I'd rather go to the fantasy version if for nothing more than the Hazuki Dojo, a labyrinthian complex where the story of the series begins.

The Dojo's training building

#8  Feudal Japan (Ganbare Goemon/Legend of the Mystical Ninja Series) - Take all the great things about Japanese history, and give them an anime twist.  It would be awesome just to see...kind of like stepping into an Anime where things don't really make sense, but you don't really care.

#7  Corneria (Star Fox Series) - A planet of anthropomorphic animals with advanced technology and space craft.  Who wouldn't want to see something like that?  Too bad it's kind of a militaristic state.

#6  Sanghelios (Halo) - While this does take a lot from Feudal Japan to make this, the fact that it's on a foreign planet would make it even more interesting.  From the scenes of the Duel (Halo Legends), this place looks gorgeous...then again, it could be the indeterminante features caused by the art style used.

The Duel

#5  Hollow Bastion/Radiant Garden (Kingdom Hearts) - The source of most of the turmoil in the first four games, this kingdom was a place of learning and science, until Ansem the Wise discovered the power of the heart, and his student, Xehanort used it to started the birth of the Heartless.

The Kingdom as seen in Kingdom Hearts 2

#4  Isle Delfino (Super Mario Sunshine) - Beating out the Mushroom Kingdom is this ultimate vacation spot in the Mario Universe.  For starters, it's gorgeous climate is unmarred by even slightest hint of ill weather, and the sunsets on the beach are amazing.  The fact that it's home to the Tanooki's doesn't hurt it at all.  Too bad they never give you a suit.

Delfino Plaza

#3  Azeroth (Warcraft)- I have supreme hatred and great admiration for the Warcraft series, and through the thick of it, Azeroth has been the main hub world.  As much as I denounce WoW's lack of a central story line, I find the settings the most beautiful in this game.  I love the bridge into Stormwind, and Silvermoon City is just gorgeous.

#2  Any Final Fantasy World - I know this is kind of cheating, but pick any FF world you want.  They're all so similar that it doesn't really matter which one you go to as it will have many of the same features.  My personal favorite is Earth Overworld from FFIV, but everyone of them has a similar feel and similar technological feels, very much like the next one in the list.

Castle Baron from FFIV

#1  Hyrule (The Legend of Zelda series) - Ok, who didn't see this coming?  I mean really didn't see this coming?  It's Hyrule.  Who doesn't want to visit this fantastic world?  I mean it has amazing set pieces.  The Temple of Time, Hyrule Castle, The Lost Woods, Lake Hylia, and the Desert Colossus are just a fair example of them.

If I ever vacation in a video game, there's a good chance it will be Hyrule.  Until then though, I have the games to tide me through.

So, what do you think?  Where would you want to go?  Why or why not?  Part V comes out tonight, and hopefully someone will figure out why before it's release.
