If you follow my blog, you may or may not know that I have a strict reviewing policy. I need to play a large chunk of the game to get a "refresher" on the game, the story, the music...all of it. Some games, this is easier than others...some it's really not.
For instance, in the Final Fantasy games, I usually want to experience all the mechanics the game has to offer recent in comparison to the time of the review...however, there in lies a problem with most FF games, some of the mechanics really don't become an issue until later in the game. FFVI's refinding the characters, Tactics Advance's Law Cards and Totemas, and FFV's modes of flight and Krile take a good amount of gameplay to get to.
That's why these games are going slower than say Silent Hill 2, which I can beat in a few hours, or Super Mario Bros. which I can belt through in approximately ten minutes. However, as this is part of my spring game play series, I've been pretty lucky overall...just some of the games I finished back in like February.
FFV and FFVI were two that it's been a while for, thus they've needed the most refreshing. On top of that, these titles have late in game additions that need to be discussed in some way. For instance, if I didn't get very far in the game, how could I talk about the primo-grinding spots, or the awesomeness that is the Freelancer form late in the game. It's little things.
Like I've said, some of these have been easier than others. FFIII you get to explore a lot of the concepts really, really early on. Airship flight, character followings, job classes, adventuring magic, you can explore all of these in maybe a few hours of gameplay. Tactics Advance has it so you can have Totemas and Law card access pretty quick in the game, and if you have the similar classes, you don't really need to hunt out the special classes if you've played them before.
Lately, I've been spending about six hours a day working on it, and I'm getting close to the point I want to be at, but it's still going to be a little slower. As such, I'm going to break my 1-1 pattern and finish the Top Ten Heroes series and write another book review in the next few days. You might also see another thing I used to try and get a job recently. An essay about Anime. We'll see though.
Anyways, I'm off to game some more. Wish me luck on completion of FFV, and I hope to have it up by Thursday for sure.
