As such, I decided to put my very first favorite game, and probably most of ours, Super Mario Brothers.
Now, it's kind of hard to talk about the gameplay of this game. It's platforming greatness that's inspired games for years and made gamers of a lot of us. 8 worlds with 4 levels each led to 32 stages of awesomeness. Jumping on goombas, running through pipes, leaping for extra points on the flag pole. It's just a great game to play, and always good for a time waste, especially since, if you're really trying, you can beat it in under ten minutes.
For me, my fastest run is just under nine minutes, so it's not a long game, which is the only complaint I really have it with it. However, maybe in its brevity, it's epic.
Then, there's the music. Every track in this game is epic. Be it the main theme...
...the underwater theme...
...the underworld theme...
...or Bowser's Castle theme.
It was just all awesome...props truly to BrentalFloss' work on 2-2 Blues, that was incredible.
Now, I know I usually start with the story of the game...but the game itself has very little story, at least at this point. Mario's princess, Peach, has been taken by Bowser, King of the Koopas, and Mario has to find and save her. Pretty simple stuff really.
However, my history with the game is something entirely different. While some people had teddy bears or baby dolls, I had the NES controller. My birthday is the last day in November, which doesn't mean much, but on Christmas, the year I was born, my dad got an NES console with Super Mario Brothers.
As I wasn't allowed to go home from the hospital for a few weeks due to complications, it's always been there, always ready to play at any time. It's awesome like that.
If you haven't played it, your gamer card is so revoked!!! Just saying.
So, let me know what you think? Is this game worthy of being one of my top ten games ever? Is it not? Let me know what you think.
