I hate when I get on Xbox Live and the gametype I want to play is now locked unless you purchase the new downloadable maps. I'm POOR! I can't just buy something like that for $15.00 every few months...especially when it's not a full game.
I'm specifically referencing Halo 3, though I've seen it happening in other games too. This morning, I got on and started playing some Team Slayer, it's usually a good warm up round for me and then I can switch to more objective based games. Team Objective is where I got my 50 for General status, I love that gametype. I'm good at it, especially when I have an aware team with me (only sometimes happens, but it's nice when it does, and if we stick together, we all rank up really quickly). However, I can't.
For those of you aren't familiar with Halo 3's multiplayer, systematically, they lock specific gametypes from people who can't afford to purchase the maps. It makes good business sense for a short term, but it's shit like this that's going to cause boycott's when it gets out of hand.
I've heard COD 4 also does this. Why? What do the respective companies have to gain by closing the specific gametypes? I mean, we're already paying for Live service, and they only see maybe 10% of final sales of the DLC, what do they have to gain by letting their playlists die out?
Team Objective is gone now altogether, however, it's replacement, Team Throwback, is locked to those who haven't purchased ODST. Ok, there's a reason you keep games and their sequels online component seperate. It only serves to annoy the gamer. That, and I'm not paying full price for what in essence is an episode of Firefly set in the Halo universe. I'd rather watch the series itself while playing Combat Evolved (which actually sounds interesting...I wonder...that's an idea for later).
So let me know what you think about this. We all know DLC's getting out of hand...but when they're taking away content from the original game if you don't buy more, that really bothers me.
